When Did the 49ers Win the Super Bowl? All Five Titles

The 49ers won Super Bowls in 1982, 1985, 1989, 1990 and 1995. See every winning season, game date, opponent and score—and their last title.
The San Francisco 49ers won the Super Bowl in 1982, 1985, 1989, 1990 and 1995. Their most recent victory came on January 29, 1995, when they defeated the San Diego Chargers 49–26 in Super Bowl XXIX. Those five wins are recorded in the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Super Bowl history.
The championship seasons were 1981, 1984, 1988, 1989 and 1994. The distinction matters: each of those Super Bowls was played in January of the following calendar year. Thus, the “1994 champion” 49ers won their title game in 1995, not 1994.

From Joe Montana’s four wins to Steve Young’s fifth
Joe Montana quarterbacked San Francisco to its first four Super Bowl victories. He was the game’s MVP in XVI, XIX and XXIV, according to his Hall of Fame biography.
The closest of those four wins came against Cincinnati in Super Bowl XXIII. Trailing 16–13, Montana led a 92-yard drive and found John Taylor for a 10-yard touchdown with 34 seconds remaining. Jerry Rice, who finished with 12 catches for 222 yards, earned MVP honors. UPI’s contemporary game report captures how late San Francisco left its third championship.
The 49ers followed that narrow escape with a 55–10 victory over Denver the next January, giving them back-to-back titles for the 1988 and 1989 seasons.
Steve Young led the fifth championship team. In Super Bowl XXIX, he threw a record six touchdown passes against San Diego and won the game’s MVP award, as recorded in his Hall of Fame biography.
Have the 49ers won since 1995?
No. As of October 30, 2026, their latest Super Bowl championship remains the 1994-season title, won in January 1995. San Francisco has returned to the game three times since then, losing to Baltimore 34–31 in 2013, Kansas City 31–20 in 2020, and Kansas City 25–22 in overtime in 2024. That leaves the franchise with five wins in eight appearances, as shown in the Hall of Fame’s Super Bowl results through LX.
