How Cam Little Moved the NFL Field-Goal Record to 68 Yards

Cam Little owns the NFL regular-season record for the longest field goal: 68 yards for the Jacksonville Jaguars against the Las Vegas Raiders on November 2, 2025.
Little made the kick at Allegiant Stadium on the final play of the first half. Jacksonville trailed 6-0 and had not scored on its first three possessions. The ball cleared the crossbar, cutting the deficit to three points and breaking Justin Tucker’s four-year-old record by two yards.
The Jaguars eventually won 30-29 in overtime. Little made all three of his field-goal attempts and all three extra-point attempts, accounting for 12 points (Jacksonville Jaguars).
The record kick
Little’s 68-yarder was not a last-second game-winner, but Jaguars coach Liam Coen called it the play that “ignited us.” Little reduced the mechanics to their essentials: “Kick it straight enough, kick it long enough, and it goes in.” The circumstances removed two common variables from such a long attempt: Allegiant Stadium is enclosed, and Little noted that he was kicking from natural grass (the Jaguars’ account of the game).
The distance was exceptional even in the modern era of longer attempts. It was only the 15th NFL attempt from at least 68 yards since 1960—and the first one made (ESPN).
Little soon showed that the record was not an isolated strike. On January 4, 2026, in Week 18 of the 2025 season, he made a 67-yarder against the Tennessee Titans. It became the longest outdoor field goal and second-longest field goal overall in NFL regular-season history. The Jaguars and the NFL’s 2026 record book recognize Little as the holder of the top two distances (Jaguars player record; NFL 2026 Record & Fact Book).
How the record progressed from 1934
The modern record did not advance one yard at a time. Long plateaus ended with sudden jumps:

The Pro Football Hall of Fame documents the early sequence: Presnell’s 54-yard mark lasted nearly two decades, Rechichar added two yards in 1953, and Dempsey then shattered that record by seven yards in 1970 (Pro Football Hall of Fame).
Dempsey’s kick became one of the position’s defining moments. Born without toes on his right foot and without a right hand, he kicked with a specially designed shoe. With New Orleans down 17-16 and two seconds remaining, he connected from 63 yards to beat Detroit 19-17. Jason Elam, Sebastian Janikowski and David Akers later matched 63 yards, but nobody exceeded it for 43 years (Pro Football Hall of Fame).
Matt Prater finally moved the record to 64 yards for Denver as the first half expired against Tennessee in 2013. His kick cut a 21-17 deficit to one point, and the Broncos went on to win 51-28 (Pro Football Hall of Fame).
Tucker pushed the record to 66 yards in Detroit on September 26, 2021. Baltimore reached the Lions’ 48-yard line after Lamar Jackson converted fourth-and-19 with a 36-yard pass to Sammy Watkins. With three seconds left, Tucker’s attempt hit the crossbar and bounced through, giving the Ravens a 19-17 win. His previous career best had been 61 yards (NFL.com).
Four years later, Little cleared Tucker’s mark without needing the crossbar.
The longest regular-season field goals

Long kicks have also become substantially more common. NFL.com reports that only nine field goals of at least 60 yards were made between Dempsey’s 1970 record and Prater’s 2013 record, excluding those two record kicks. The 2025 season alone produced 12 field goals from at least 60 yards (NFL.com).
Why a 70-yard kick is not the record
Little also made a 70-yard field goal in the 2025 preseason. Harrison Butker made one from 69 yards in the 2026 preseason. Neither displaced the 68-yard regular-season mark because preseason statistics do not enter the official regular-season record book (USA Today).
The answer therefore depends on scope: Little’s 68-yarder is the NFL regular-season record, while his 70-yarder is the longest made in an NFL preseason game.
