The Raiders’ Three Super Bowl Wins, Explained

The Raiders have won three Super Bowls in five appearances. See the winning seasons, game dates, scores and the Oakland–Los Angeles distinction.
The Raiders have won three Super Bowls: XI, XV and XVIII, representing the 1976, 1980 and 1983 seasons. Their championship games were played in January 1977, 1981 and 1984. The franchise won twice as the Oakland Raiders and once as the Los Angeles Raiders; those titles belong to the same franchise now based in Las Vegas. The Raiders’ official championship history records all three victories.
Through Super Bowl LX, played in February 2026, the Raiders have made five Super Bowl appearances and have a 3–2 record. They have not won one under the Las Vegas name. ESPN’s complete results list confirms the five appearances.

The season and game year differ because each Super Bowl followed the regular season it decided. Thus, the Raiders’ most recent title is the 1983-season championship, won on January 22, 1984—not a championship for the 1984 season.
Super Bowl XI: Oakland’s first title
John Madden’s Raiders entered the game after a 13–1 regular season and defeated Minnesota at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Receiver Fred Biletnikoff earned MVP honors, while cornerback Willie Brown supplied one of the game’s lasting images: a 75-yard interception return for a touchdown. Oakland won 32–14. Super Bowl XV: A wild-card breakthrough
The 1980 Raiders became the first wild-card team to win the Super Bowl. Under head coach Tom Flores, Oakland beat Philadelphia 27–10 in New Orleans. Jim Plunkett, who had replaced injured starting quarterback Dan Pastorini during the season, threw three touchdown passes without an interception and won the game’s MVP award. Super Bowl XVIII: The Los Angeles championship
Flores and Plunkett were still in place when the Los Angeles Raiders beat Washington 38–9 in Tampa. Marcus Allen earned MVP honors with 191 rushing yards, including a 74-yard touchdown run on which he reversed direction before breaking free. This remains the franchise’s latest Super Bowl victory. The two losses—and the separate AFL title
The Raiders’ other Super Bowl appearances both came as Oakland:
- Super Bowl II: Lost 33–14 to Green Bay on January 14, 1968, following the 1967 season.
- Super Bowl XXXVII: Lost 48–21 to Tampa Bay on January 26, 2003, following the 2002 season—their most recent appearance.
Both results appear in ESPN’s championship-game record.
There is also an earlier title to keep distinct: Oakland won the 1967 AFL championship, defeating the Houston Oilers 40–7 before losing Super Bowl II to the NFL-champion Packers. That was an AFL league title, not a fourth Super Bowl win. The Raiders’ historical timeline records both games.
